WHAT THE HECK?
You’re sitting there and all of sudden you feel your body heat up from the inside out. Maybe you break out in an all body sweat. You think “WTF?” “What’s wrong with me?” Then someone mentions the word “hot flash” and you realize, after you slap them, you might be coming into perimenopause or full on menopause.
The time in your life where you don’t know if you’re coming or going, you’re kicking off blankets, wearing a tank under everything so you can strip and not embarrass your family. You have a newfound love of turning down the thermostat. You’re waking up in the middle of the night dripping in sweat (and not the fun kind).
You might begin using these common phases “WTF, I don’t Care, Fuck It, Shut It, Figure it Out and Seriously?”
Self medication of chocolate, carbs, wine, Netflix, online shopping, sugar and pictures of Kevin Costner become a must.
WTF is happening?
WE CAN’T GET AWAY FROM IT SO HOW TO GET THROUGH IT
I am on the other side and it’s a good place to be. You can do it too! Through trial and error, I found what helped and what didn’t.
WHAT DIDN’T HELP
Carbs, alcohol, caffeine and sugar can be triggers for a hot flash. Basically everything you may love. Sugar was a big trigger for me. You may find it worth it to back away from these foods. Ouch, I know. But it really does help.
WHAT HELPED
Basically a good diet, good nutrition and exercise. We hear it, we know it and it really does work. Good fats, good protein, flaxseed and veggies. But that’s not all! I could not have gone through it so easily without the vitamins and herbs that made a HUGE difference in preventing hot flashes and night sweats. Vitamins like Vitamin D and calcium. Herbs like Ginseng tea and Black Cohosh.
You will get through it and I promise the other side is a great place to be!
